Paris Saint-Germain's status in world football belies their humble history. Surprisingly, the club was only formed in 1970 as the result of the merger between Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain. This decade of success saw the club collect 8 significant trophies including a League championship and the 1996 UEFA Cup Winner's Cup title to make them and Marseille the only two French clubs to have won a major European trophy.
